REQUIREMENTS TO TEACH
The North Carolina State Board of Education (NC SBOE) requires teachers who teach for North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) to have a current NC teaching license in the areas in which they are applying to teach. Lateral entry teachers for Critical Language Courses currently teaching in NC must submit a letter from the school confirming employment.
Teachers need to have excellent computer skills and be prepared to spend more time on-line with students, teaching and directing learning, than in a typical face-to-face classroom. Office hours will be posted and maintained for student and parent contact.
Pay is generated on a per student basis each semester. In addition, each teacher will be responsible for participating in department meetings, weekly eLC meetings, course revisions, provide reports as designated on the calendars as well as keeping in contact with students daily. If hired, you will be required to come to the Raleigh office to do your official hiring paperwork.

We are now taking applications for part-time teaching positions.
Step #1. Apply online. Access the ONLINE APPLICATION and send in your information today!
TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A TEACHING POSITION YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- ON-LINE TRAINING–You must have either DATOC (which was renamed TOC) or Teaching Online Course, which is available through Learn NC. This training is the responsibility of the applicant prior to being selected. If you have previous on-line training, please be prepared to show documentation of training and NCVPS will consider this on a case-by-case basis.
- TEACHING LICENSE - You must hold a SP II NC Teaching License. Applicants with 4+ years experience are considered first. All of our courses are high school level so a 9-12 certification is required for all courses. We do honor the reciprocity agreement from other states. Please visit this the NC DPI Licensure Website where you will find the steps for obtaining a NC license before you are eligible to be hired- . http://www.ncpublicschools.org/licensure/beginning/
Step #2. Only applicants who have met ALL NCVPS requirements outlined in Step #1 will be considered for Step #2 of the process. Each selected applicant will be asked to serve as a Teaching Assistant (TA) before being offered a part-time position. This will require you to volunteer your time to work with a Veteran Teacher for a whole semester before you can be considered. During this time, the Veteran Teacher will share NCVPS teacher expectations, guidelines/policies, and you will participate in professional development related to this position. A checklist will be used to guide the process as you work under the supervision of an experienced online teacher. Once the TA process has been completed, a rubric is used to document your effectiveness and will be used to identify the most qualified teacher for a new position. If there is a need in your preferred subject area, you can be considered to teach the following semester. You must serve as a TA to be considered for any teaching position.
Step #3, In order to be considered for a teaching position, you must meet all of our requirements. Once you have met the requirements, you will be called for an interview by a NCVPS staff member. We will let you know when we will need the following documents for further consideration. Please do not sent them to us until we make the request:
