NCVPS HIRES NEW CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER

Dr. Tracy Savell Weeks, the director of Instructional Technology and Media in Chapel Hill - Carrboro Schools, has been named the new Chief Academic Officer of the NC Virtual Public Schools. This appointment culminates an intense national search for a person to provide leadership in this key area. Dr. Weeks is no stranger to NCVPS as she has served for the past two years on the virtual school’s advisory board and has been an active member on various advisory board work teams. She will begin her new position on September 22.

"Tracy Weeks brings to NCVPS a rare combination of technology and curriculum expertise," said Executive Director Dr. Bryan Setser, "We look forward to her impact on our instructional division. She will be a key leader in shaping the way North Carolina students excel in 21st century learning environments."

Weeks says that she sees technology as a key to leveling the playing field in education. "In the 21st century, all students should have access to high quality, engaging learning opportunities regardless of their geographic location," she said. "I look forward to this new opportunity to shape the face of e-learning curriculum for students across North Carolina."

Dr. Weeks began her career in education as a math teacher at Hickory High School in Hickory, NC. While at Hickory High, Dr. Weeks became a leader in the use of technology in the classroom and provided staff development to her peers on several applications.

Dr. Weeks holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Math Education from UNC - Chapel Hill, a Master’s degree in Education in Instructional Technology with a Statistics minor and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum and Instruction from North Carolina State University. She is a NC Teaching Fellow and a member of Phi Kappa Phi.
